When the Corona pandemic gained a foothold worldwide, it put particular pressure to several conflict situations on the African continent which usually don’t appear on the front pages. Elections in Mozambique 2019

In October 2019 I covered the elections in Mozambique, from its capital Maputo. For ZDFheute I analysed how the dominant FRELIMO party risked the outbreak of further violence in the South-East-African country by putting considerable pressure on the Mozambican voters. In another story, I portrayed the hopes and fears of Mozambique’s younger generation. Many of the people I spoke with had great hopes for things changing for the better in a country that has been hit hard by economic crisis and climate misfortunes like cyclones Idai and Kenneth in spring 2019.
